Using optical cables, a transceiver converts electrical signals into optical signals. A fiber transmits light pulses to the receiver. The receiver converts the light pulses back into electrical signals. There are different versions of optical cables:

Active optical cables
Active optical cables have a transceiver integrated in the connector housing. It’s a plug and play solution. ElectronAix offers active USB cables with Type-C connectors as well as display port and/or HDMI cables. The converters are bus powered. No additional power supply is required.

Passive optical cables
Passive optical cables consist only of the fiber for optical signal transmission and the connectors at the ends. The signal converters are outside the cable.
Optical cables offer several advantages in comparison to copper connections. First, optical signal transmission preserves the signal shape much better than transmission through copper. This property goes hand in hand with a lower attenuation of the signal. Thus, optical cables allow transmission of high data rates over a long distance.

Due to the mechanical construction, optical cables are lighter and have a smaller cross-section than comparable connections using copper. Finally, optical cables impress with their EMC properties. Since no electrical power is transmitted, neither capacitive nor inductive fields are generated.
Our active optical cables are designed for the transmission of USB 3.2 signals up to 10 Gbit/sec, HDMI or Display Port signals. The signal converters are each integrated in the connector and are powered from the bus – so no additional power supplies are needed for the optical signal transmission.


The converters are manufactured fully automatized and have a bonded chip. This allows us to produce with the smallest tolerances for a small scattering, stable properties and long-lasting quality of our active USB cables, DisplayPort and HDMI cables.

We support you to find the right specification and to select a customised solution for optical cables. Therefor we consider the bit rate and transmission length of your connection for optimal optical signal transmission. Depending on the application, copper wires may also be required, for example for active USB cables in a bidirectional USB 2.0 type-C connection. We also have solutions for this. All active optical cables are available on request in individual lengths and with customized cable, for example with steel armoring for use in a harsh environment. At ElectronAix you receive qualified design support and individual solutions.

SAP is our most important tool

We work with an ERP-system from SAP and map all flows of goods there, from the procurement of raw materials to the storage of raw materials, the inventories in our buffer warehouse in Aachen and all the way to the deliveries of your orders.

Our ERP-system thus combines all the functions we need for our business operations, ensuring maximum transparency, and data integrity.

Documentation and data security

The most important information about the article life cycle is integrated into our ERP-system: Clarifications and technical changes are thus accessible and available at any time if required, for example during order entry.

To ensure the highest level of data security, our server is mirrored, and both servers are also housed in different fire protection areas. In addition, all data is backed up daily to a German cloud. An external partner keeps our firewall and virus scanner permanently up to date.

Project planning and buffer storage

We have critical components in stock on site in Aachen. This gives us 100% control of material management and - flow.

During the ramp up we can agree with you on buying critical parts from the BOM-List in advance. This supports a smooth project ramp up and maximum supply security for your benefit. It gives you more time to finalize the design of your assembly.

During the lifecycle we can keep a buffer stock of the critical components. This shortens lead times and gives you flexibility.

In case of minimum order quantities e.g. for raw cable, we can arrange to keep the surplus in our factory for future orders.

Origin of supply

We mainly work with companies that are based in Taiwan. There, we focus on a small number of experts. Most of them have production lines in China (Mainland). In recent years we have expanded our portfolio and can also offer you solutions for cable assemblies from Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

All products come from a largely automated process with automatic soldering and crimping and 100 percent electrical testing. Our distribution and logistics processes are certified according to ISO9001 and audited according to VDA.
